South Hadley was a CTY site located in South Hadley, Massachusetts at Mount Holyoke college. It was for young students and a residential site for grades 5-6. It's site code was SHD. Any other information of the site would be gratefully appreciated.

Site Description

Mount Holyoke College was home to CTY's YS program until 2013. It was founded in 1837 as Mount Holyoke Female Seminary and today it is sill an all women college. Its most famous almuna is famous poet Emily Dickinson.

Main Building

The main building at South Hadley for CTY was the Blanchard Campus Center, where CTY offices were put and the bookstore was located to buy your books, and the dances were held in the basement of the building as they had a small dance place.

Dorms

Dorms (as of the last year 2013) were held in Rockefeller Hall for boys and Buckland and Abbey Hall for girls.

Whole Site Meetings

One of the things that happens at Baby CTY that is different to regular CTY is the whole site meeting, which was held every Sunday of the session for about an hour where the site director talked about the site in its past week. Personally, it was not needed because you sat there for an hour or two and just heard her talk or a class would perform something they did. It was a little odd. These site meetings were held at Chapin Auditorium, where the registration was held upstairs.

Meals

Meals were held in the same halls as the students ate, except when lunch happened when it would be with your class at the closest meal place.

Canon

Did Mount Holyoke really have a canon? Not really, but these are the songs I remember hearing at pretty much every dance:

  • Shout, Pts. 1 & 2- The Everly Brothers
  • Gangnam Style- PSY
  • Cupid Shuffle- Cupid
  • Cotton Eyed Joe- Rednex
  • Cha Cha Slide- DJ Casper

And of course

  • American Pie- Don McLean

Weekend Activites

The weekend activites I can remember were:

  • Carnival Day
  • Capture the Flag (Staff V. Students)
  • Talent Show
