Located 12 miles north of San Francisco in Marin County, Dominican University of California was founded (originally as Dominican College) in 1890. The 80-acre, park-like campus is located in an historic neighborhood at the center of an area of incredible natural beauty. The campus was designed to encourage the values of study, reflection, community, and service in the lives of the students living there. With its manicured gardens and sun-drenched benches, Dominican offers an ideal location for intellectual and personal growth. The temperate climate provides a comfortable living and learning environment, and most facilities do not need to be air conditioned. Approximately 180 students and 45 staff are expected to attend each session.

San Rafael is a Baby CTY site. It replaced Seattle in 2016 and started as a CTY and CAA site but is now only for young students. It is located on the campus of Dominican University in San Rafael, California, only 10 miles from San Francisco.

Site History

Dominican University is named after St. Dominic de Guzman, the founder of the Dominican Order (now better known as the Order of Preachers). The University became fully coeducational in 1971 after previously being an all-women's college. It is the smallest university in California to host a Governor's debate. Edgehill Manor (see insert) got a new renovation in 2010. The mansion has been at the site since 1893, or for over 120 years.

Dorms

The Dorms for the site (but not necessarily part of CTY) are:

Fanjeaux

Fanjeaux Hall is the girls' dorm. There's a lounge and the Campus Bookstore on the first floor. It has three floors, each with lounges, and can usually house about three halls per floor. A bathroom is shared by two rooms as opposed to public bathrooms. Located across the street from the Archbishop Alemany Library and Caleruega Hall, it is connected to Pennafort Hall, the boys' dorm, by a covered walkway. The outside of the building looks like a European stone castle.

Edgehill Village

Edgehill Village is made up of six complexes, each equipped with eight suites. Each suite houses four students and has two bedrooms, a bathroom with a shower, and a living room.

Pennafort

Pennafort Hall is the boys' dorm, located next to Fanjeaux Hall and across the street from Archbishop Alemany Library and Caleruega Hall. Pennafort is the only student dorm building containing vending machines. It also houses the Main Office and Nurse's Office on the second floor. Like Fanjeaux, it holds multiple halls and a lounge each floor.
