These are the Emperors and Empresses listed by year of reign.  Two Emperors and two Empresses are crowned each session just to make sure at least one comes back the following year.  This tradition began in 2005 when Riley O'Neill was the only one to return of four royalty chosen.  It was passed down to Session 2 when David "Bex" Becker and Lina Huo (First Session Royalty) attended the Second Session Passionfruit of 2006 and told Youngin Lim to pick four, just in case.

Beginning in 10.2, The Emperor/Empress of JHU wears a "crown," which in reality is a comically large blue and yellow sparkly hat. (As of 17.2 and probably earlier, the Empress wears a tiara.) At Passionfruit, the reigning Emperor/Empress crowns their successor by passing on said hat/tiara. The transition of BLAMMO divinity is also incorporated into Passionfruit, and involves the passing of the Most Epic Tome of BLAMMO to the next God/Goddess. In 11.2, new artifacts such as the Duct Tape Tie and the Emperor's New Shoes were introduced by Karl Heinlein.

In the "Wilderness Year" of 12.2, there was much confusion and anarchy involved in deciding who would succeed the self-proclaimed God. The said God had decided to declare himself as Emperor, but relinquished his powers last minute to a flying squirrel, who then crowned a separate Empress from the already-crowned Goddess.
 +
 +
In 2016, following the death of BLAMMO, Empress Tea named two successors, an emperor and an empress, to complete the Holy Trinity, along with a Rave King. In order to sort out the conflict of which successor gets the Holy Book of Love, Empress Tea wrote out another copy by hand.

The guy who was supposed to be the Empress for 2018.2 went to Carlisle with his friends, and in the confusion of trying to find another Emperor (which never happened; 18.2 is forever Emperor-less) the Book of Love, which had been sent to the Empress (Lynne Kim), was lost in the mail. Lynne hand-copied the entire thing into another composition book so there would be two Books of Love once more.

There is no position in CTYI referred to as royalty however there is a role in session 1 since 2017, known as the Space Pope. They have a special hat and help to inform people about traditions. They do not have any type of authority and are more there as guidance. They might also organise the candlelit ceremony but it is not a responsibility specifically reserved for them.

The Emperor is the only position that exists at more than one site. It is also among the oldest traditions. The Emperor and Empress are the people who traditionally preside over the Passionfruit, and are usually quite knowledgeable about tradition.

Carlisle

At both sessions, the Emperor and Empress have traditional headgear that are passed down to succeeding royalty. First Session's Emperor and Empress have a crown and a tiara respectively. Second Session instead has two crowns handmade from colored duct tape for both the Emperor and the Empress.

The role of the royalty at Carlisle is to act as sort of student administrators. For example, when there was a conflict about Goth Day, the Empress made the final verdict. Their main duty is to run every aspect of Passionfruit. It is traditional for the Emperor to make the first toast, and the Empress, the last. The Emperor and Empress are responsible for coming up with devirginizations/den00bifications to initiate those to those who are new to the site or were absent the year before. The administration has disallowed both these terms in recent years, so they are now referred to as Passionfruit Games.

Quite some time ago, the Empress and Emperor were referred to as the "juice coordinators" who would traditionally purchase a large amount of Passionfruit juice for the whole circle. Then, people realized the ineffectiveness of this and started to bring their own juice, soda, water, etc., to Passionfruit. In addition, upon the departure of Gary Noritz, who facilitated finding and purchasing cases of passionfruit juice, the drink became difficult to obtain. However, for Passionfruit 10.1, Liam McNamara, the Jesus for the session, managed to acquire several containers of passionfruit juice. The mixing of passionfruit juice with red Powerade during the Last Supper became a tradition soon after. (Passionfruit juice is available at some farmer markets, as well as supermarkets such as Whole Foods).

For session 1 in the following list, the first person listed was Empress and the latter is Emperor, and for session 2 the first listed is Emperor and the latter is Empress

The Emperor/Empress is the person who makes the first speech at Passionfruit. Unlike other positions, it is not decided the previous year but rather at by application at the no-more meeting. There can be more than one; for example, in 06.2 there were two, and at 05.2 there were four (two males and two females, in reference to The Chronicles of Narnia).

Trinity

Main article: Trinity (Session 1)

In 07.1, the Emperor position of First Session was replaced with a new trio of positions called the Trinity, based on the Catholic Holy Trinity and in reference to the verse in Don McLean's "American Pie" which goes:

"And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died."

The Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost now fill the roles of Emperors of Passionfruit and execute the Last Supper.

Saratoga Springs

The Royalty at Saratoga Springs, besides being knowledgeable about tradition and making the last Passionfruit speeches, organize Blammo and Spirit Days.

Note: For session 1, please organize in order so that we can preserve who picked who. EX: 2005: a, b, c, d - 2006: a's pick, b's pick, c's pick, d's pick.

Princeton

At Princeton, it was decided that the Passionfruit Emperor and Empress should come from different CTY sites to show the combining of sites within the Princeton site. Together, the sites create a happy family. The royal family of 2009 was...

  • 2009
Emperor: Julie of Lancaster and Rachel Hall of Carlisle
Empress: Johnine Licht of Siena (she also attended Lancaster 08.1)

Baltimore

For 22.1, Switch would be appointed Empress and later expand the monarchy and attempt to restore it after Covid. See Baltimore for more

Dublin, Ireland

There is no position in CTYI referred to as royalty however there is a role in session 1 since 2017, known as the Space Pope. They have a special hat and help to inform people about traditions. They do not have any type of authority and are more there as guidance. They might also organise the candlelit ceremony but it is not a responsibility specifically reserved for them.
