[[Introduction to Psychology]] (IPSY), also known as Topics in Psychology, was the original [[CTY]] Psychology course. This was before the [[Cognitive Psychology]] course, as that was considered an easier approach to this course. Psychology in the 90's was considered one of the hardest CTY courses. This course was offered at [[Baltimore]], [[Carlisle]], [[Clinton]], [[Lancaster]], [[Los Angeles]] and [[Saratoga Springs]].

This rigorous course covers material normally included in a one-semester college survey course. Topics include a history of psychology and the evolution of the modern scientific approach to the discipline; research methods and statistics; the brain, nervous systems and behavior; theories of personality; learning and memory; sensation and perception; psychological measurement and testing; physical and cognitive development; and social behaviors and influences. Class projects and activities are included as a means of reinforcing the concepts encountered in class and introducing students to experimental design and interpretation.
