Contents
Site Overview
Mount Holyoke College was home to CTY's Baby CTY (or Young Students) program until 2013. It was founded in 1837 as Mount Holyoke Female Seminary and today it is still an all-female college. Its most famous alumna is world-renowned poet Emily Dickinson.
Main Building
The main building at South Hadley for CTY was the Blanchard Campus Center, where CTY offices were located as well as the bookstore where students bought their books. Dances were held in the basement of the building as they had a small dance area.
Dorms
Dorms (as of the last year 2013) were Rockefeller Hall for boys and Buckland Hall and Abbey Hall for girls. Abbey Hall is three stories tall and has single, double, and triple rooms.
Meals
Meals were held in the same halls as the students ate, with the exception of lunch because it would be eaten with the student's class at the closest meal place.
Student Life
Whole-Site Meetings
The whole site meeting was held every Sunday of the session for about an hour where the site director talked about the site in its past week. It was not really needed because students just sat there for an hour or two and listened to the site director talk or watch a class perform. It was a little odd. These site meetings were held at Chapin Auditorium, the building in which registration was held (upstairs).
Weekend Activities
The weekend activities I can remember were:
- Carnival Day
- Capture the Flag (Staff V. Students)
- Talent Show
- Casino Night
The Testing
During the times when outdoor activities were cancelled, students would go into Hooker Auditorium to watch a movie. To get everyone quiet, the SRA would read a book called "The Testing" by Joelle Charbonneau. It was really boring and made no sense, but it would get people intrigued because of how bad it was. It actually came out the summer of 2013. As of now, no other site uses "The Testing" to help quiet kids down.
Canon
Did Mount Holyoke have a canon? No, but these songs were played at every dance:
- Shout, Pts. 1 & 2 - The Everly Brothers
- Gangnam Style - PSY
- Cupid Shuffle - Cupid
- Cotton Eyed Joe - Rednex
- Cha Cha Slide - DJ Casper
And of course,
- American Pie - Don McLean
