For anyone looking to make formatting changes on the site, here's a quick (and hopefully not too convoluted) guide to editing pages on RealCTY. Most of these features can be accessed by clicking buttons on the editing toolbar, but if you still need help with an edit or you'd just like to say hey, edit this page by clicking the "edit" button above or contact another RealCTY admin. Happy editing!

First things first

A guideline of editing do's and don't's on RealCTY (no bullying, obviously) can be found here.
Now, on to the more technical stuff.

Linking to another RealCTY page

To link to another page and display the page name, put the page title between two sets of brackets, like so:

Example: [.[Hall of Fame].] (delete the periods between the brackets) becomes Hall of Fame

Alternatively, you can use the third button on the editing toolbar to make things easier.

Linking to another RealCTY page but displaying a different word

Put the page title between two sets of brackets again but right after the page name, insert a | (hold shift and press the button underneath your backspace key) and the word you'd like to display after it, like so:

Example: [.[Hall of Fame|here].] (delete the periods between the brackets) becomes here

Note: make sure there are no spaces between the page name, |, and the word you want to display.

Linking to a portion of a RealCTY page but displaying a different word (or not)

Put the page title between two sets of brackets with a # (hold shift key and the 3 key above the qwerty keyboard at the same time) and the title of the section of the page you're linking. For example, to link to the Traditions portion of the SAR page while displaying the word "here" as your link, the whole thing will look like this: [.[Saratoga Springs#Traditions|here].] (delete the periods between the brackets)

Example: [.[Saratoga Springs#Traditions|here].] (delete the periods between the brackets) becomes here

Note: The portion you're linking to must already be a header/title on the page you're linking to. To find titles on the page, see if the title is a link in the "Contents" table on that page.

Note 2: If the title of the header/title is renamed, your link will link to the top of that page instead of that specific portion. To link to that same portion again, you'll have to edit your link in the brackets to reflect the new name change.

Linking to an external page (and displaying a number)

Put the link url between one set of brackets, like so: [ ]

Example: Put http://www.gmail.com in a set of square brackets and it becomes [1]

Alternatively, you can click the fourth button on the editing toolbar and insert the link from there.

Images

Inserting an image on RealCTY onto a RealCTY page

First, upload an image onto RealCTY.org by clicking the "upload file" link on the left toolbar of any RealCTY page. Then, upload your image file and give it a name.
Insert your image name in two sets of square brackets like so: [.[Image:filename.jpg].] (delete periods between the brackets)

Example for a picture titled SAR2: [.[Image:SAR2.jpg].] (delete the periods between the brackets) becomes SAR2.jpg
Alternatively, you can click on the sixth button on the editing toolbar and insert the name of the image from there.

Note: A more comprehensive set of guidelines for inserting pictures of a certain size and other media types can be found on the "upload files" page. From that page, you can also see a gallery of past uploaded files.

Linking to an external image

As of now, I haven't found any great way to insert an external image onto a RealCTY page. The best method I've found involves using the method of linking to an external website as stated above.

Example: Put http://www.satbymba.com/images/JHU-CTY.JPG in square brackets [ ] and it becomes: [2]

Note: The best way to insert an image onto a RealCTY page as far as I know is to upload the file to RealCTY and then link to it using the [.[Image:filename.jpg].] (delete periods between brackets) method.

Template/sidebar changes (i.e. changing the picture or details in the rightmost sidebar of a site's main page)

Templates are usually protected, so you'll have to contact a RealCTY admin to get something changed. Feel free to edit this page and ask for help.
