Course Description

This course covers topics ranging from the causes of the Civil War to the legacy of Reconstruction. Students evaluate significant issues and events prior to and following the war. They also study major battles as well as the personalities and accomplishments of significant military figures. In addition, they consider the roles of women in the Civil War, including those of Clara Barton and Dorthea Dix. Students work extensively with primary-source documents.
