During JHU-1-06 the Genomics class dressed up for the first ever Pirate Day. Attire consisted of eyeliner beards and mustaches (or just eye liner for a more rugged look), eye patches, cardboard and duct taped swords, head bands, and striped, red, black, white, and/or torn clothing. Members consisted of full fledged pirates, firates (female pirates), wenches, and ienches (it wenches - no gender). Honorary titles consisted of Ienchmaster, captain, Dread Pirate Amandark and murse. The genomics class pirated Tracey's hall, parts of the biology class, a TA (Nick) and an instructor (Tom). Sword fights were common during pirate day and usually resulted in missing arms, legs, and fingers. Such duels often resembled parts of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. During the meet and greet the pirates gave "pillage grams" which consisted of whacking CTYers with cardboard swords, declaring that their village had been pillaged, and giving them the opportuntity to direct the pirates to their next victims. Such victems were bubblicious, and Andy the RA who was pillaged by an umbrella-turned-sword. After receiving his pillagegram, Andy threated bodily harm on whoever was the leader of said pirate ship (known as the S.S. Eternally Damned). Said leader (Aman Daray) hid from Andy for the rest of the evening.

-Edit: There was also a more toned down version of a Pirate Day in Skidmore Session 1 2006. This was started by a nevermore named Edwin Ma who wished to honor a close friend of his named Andrew Yu who was unable to return in 2006. This was created due to the fact that Ninja Day (Sucessfully done in 2005 started by Andrew and Edwin) was cancelled because SRA Felicia said that students were not allowed to cover their faces. Andrew Yu was recognizable in 2005 Session 1 due to the fact that he wore a bandanna on his head like a Pirate everyday, so in Skidmore alongside End of the World Day a large group of people wore either bandannas or a t-shirt around their heads pirate style for what Edwin called "Pirate/Andrew Yu Day". Coincidently due to the fact that so few people had bandannas,(around 6-7 people) many people had to use t-shirts which resulted in looking like people were wearing doo-rags. This caused many people to instead call this "Gangster Day" which oddly enough "gangster" was a very oftenly used term by Edwin and Andrew and that Edwin was called by people who didn't know him "That gangster Asian" although Edwin repeatedly said he'd rather not be called that.

Siena Session 1 2006 also featured a pirate day, in the form of pirate versus ninja day, on the first friday of the session. This day featured many people dressed up in the all important character attire but not much actually competition between the two groups as the "vs" suggests.

Because there wasn't a Hall of Fame for JHU.

2006.1 -- Pirate Day

Siena Session 1 2006 also featured a pirate day, in the form of pirate versus ninja day, on the first friday of the session. This day featured many people dressed up in the all important character attire but not much actually competition between the two groups as the "vs" suggests.

-Edit: At Saratoga, 2006 S.2, Pirates vs. Ninja vs. Cavemen was a daily during the second week where everyone beat each other with paper swords and clubs on South Park Lawn. Then we attacked the Chillaxin' daily.

-Edit: Carlisle Session 2 had both Pirate and Ninja activities one day, at the end of which they fought each other

2007.2--Ball Ball

The boys in the genomics class along with their hallmates (Jesse's hall and alex's hall) would play ball ball for hours. Ball ball consists of throwing a ball (made from t-shirts wrapped in rubberbands) at each others balls. Throughout the session the genomics girls were greatly amused/confused by this game and the genomics TA (Nick) was invited to join in ( he declined). The credit for this bright idea rests with Jason. On the last day, the genomics girls went up to the boys dorms and watched them play ball ball. Two of the girsl tried to pay, but as Alex pointed out, "ball ball just doesn't work with girls." There were a few times when parents walked in during a game, but i don't think they ever figured out what was going on.

2008.1-2--Ninjas and Cavemen

There was a number of activities in both Sessions 1 and 2 which basically involved the same thing--running around and causing chaos. These would take the form of Ninja activities in which people would make newspaper swords, then go around to disrupt various activities, whack people with their swords, and sneak up on unsuspecting groups (e.g. CTYers returning from the Bookstore). The other variant was the Cavemen activity type--people would make newspaper clubs, and do the same thing that the ninjas did. Both variants would often seriously irk the victims, who would often fight back by taunting the cavemen/ninjas and destroying the paper swords/clubs. Both of these activities were led by RA Albert Hsu, who only stayed for Session 1. However, in Session 2, Albert Hsu made at least one surprise appearance to lead the Ninjas/Cavemen.

2008.2--The Tree Incident

The rope hanging out of the tree in the aftermath.

Session 2 had at least two days where people could randomly switch around activities (One was called "Monday Fun Day" in week two, and the other "Tuesday Choose Day" in week 3). At the second one, an Aerobie disc got stuck in a tree. More than 50 people were involved in trying to get it down, including several RAs and SRA Ben Vaughn. The main attempt involved the SRA standing on a chair with a pole that was fashioned out of many meter sticks connected using masking tape on a lacrosse stick. The SRA tried for more than 10 minutes trying to remove the Aerobie, without avail. There was also a long rope that someone managed to get up into the tree, which was used by a large line/crowd of people to pull/bend the tree (by about 20 degrees) closer to the pole, which was on the verge of falling apart. Eventually, the pole fell apart and the SRA gave up. All the while, people were throwing things (frisbees, shoes, balls) at the tree to shake the Aerobie off, with many of the projectiles landing into the crowd behind SRA Ben. One person threw a plastic ball up into the tree, trying to dislodge the Aerobie, but the ball became stuck as well, until the end of the session. The Aerobie and the plastic ball were stuck until (at least) the end of the session, but the rope was eventually removed.
