Course Description

From the CTY Course Catalog (1997):

What is the fascination with flight? We have always looked to the skies in awe and wonder. Flight has long tantalized the human imagination. Students in this course examine the mythology and fancy of flight, the first attempts at actual flight, lighter-than-air craft, gliders, heavier-than-air craft, rockets, supersonic aircraft, and space flight and then speculate about the future of flight.

Through demonstration, experimentation, and calculation, students gain a deeper appreciation for the inventors and aviation pioneers of yesterday and today, and a deeper understanding of the forces, principles and technology related to flight.

Field trips to local aviation facilities are an important aspect of this course.
