Mathematical Logic
Also known as Mathematical Reasoning and, more recently, Mathematical Logic, REAS is a course whose syllabus can vary from year to year and site to site.
Common topics include:
- Formal logical operators such as implication, negation, "and", and "or";
- Methods of proof, including direct proof, proof by contradiction, and induction;
- Mathematical problem solving;
- First-order logic;
- Set theory;
- Graph theory.
This course is extremely useful if you are going into Geometry. The proofs are very valuable. RESPECT THE PROOFS!!!!!!!
By the way, Both Session 1 and 2 at Siena '06 kicked Logic's @$$!!!
Mathmatical Logic is a good intro math course and for many of the people that take this class, their very first time ever to the wonderful world of CTY. Math Logic covers a lot of ground in three weeks. Alot of First time CTY-ers take it because the only preresquite is Algebra I.
LANCASTER 06.2 - TOTAL WAR
Though it is true that mostly squirrels take Math Logic, one infamous year, two mature (one-mores) beauties, Bergit (B) and Harriet took the course in 2006 at the wonderful and sexy Lancaster site for no coherent, apparent reason.
Though they had issues with the amount of actual logical thought the course required, they participated in the complete and total PWNAGE of the Number Theory class that had a classroom adjacent to theirs.
It was during this session that the infamous war between THEO and REAS started. The Math Logic teacher ("What's a matababy?" "I dunno, baby, what's a matter which you?") forced his children to chant "PROOF PROOF PROOF" to get revved up. Soon the exceedingly cocky Number Theory children became jealous and started chanting in their classroom for all to hear.
The war moved outside once the Math Logic kids were given colorful sidewalk chalk. Harriet, B, and a few of their male squirrel minions wrote inflammatory remarks aimed at the Number Theory kids during break, including Harriet's famous "Modus Pwnens" display.
Thus began the sidewalk battle, until the rain came and washed everything away. One day, the Theo kids came outside in the middle of the Logic children's tirade in chalk, and it was very very very awkward.
Finally, at the end of the session, with everyone feeling general love for their fellow CTY-er whom would soon also be experiencing CTY withdrawal, the class formed a shaky peace. And thus ends the saga. --Harriet 13:39, 24 May 2007 (MST)
