2012.2
Saratoga Emperor Visit
On the last Wednesday of session 2 of the new Seattle site, 2012.1 Saratoga Emperor James Gan visited. While most of the students were squirrels, with the most lanyards any of the students had being 3, he made quite an impression. Wearing green, blue, 2 orange, 3 purple, 1 watermelon lanyards, as well as a Skidmore college lanyard flaunting his Skidmore ID card, he got many stares from the young students at SUN.
After lunch, he managed to find his former RA, Lalo, from Saratoga, who was working as a TA for Electrical Engineering. They went to find other former Saratoga RA, David Grimes, who was working as the D.R.L.
Lalo walked into his office. "Hey, David... I found this student walking around on the streets... What should we do with him?" and then motioned for James to walk into the room.
DGrimes stared for a while, and just said... "Do I know you? You aren't a student here, are you?" and James just burst out laughing. After a while of explanation, they were reminiscing over James' first session at Saratoga. Apparently, Lalo and DGrimes were practically alone with trying to bring some CTY culture (Making sure there was American Pie... Even Love Tape day), seeing as there were only a few other CTY veterans (1 or 2 CAR/LAN RAs and 2 or 3 CAR/LAN students).
2017.1
A Watch Has Fallen
After the main events of 17.1 Casino night, two RAs held a mock fight for halls to bet on. Whoever won would win the rights to free pizza for his/her floor. During the fight, an RA's watch was punched and fell to the floor. After some examination, it was determined to be broken.
2017.2
Dogs
On the Union Green, where many classes have their breaks, there are way too many dogs with their owners. This means that there's always at least one dog to play with during break. At the beginning of the session, Frisbee was the most popular. EGRD.A was out playing with a Frisbee from Paul, a commuter student, and a dog. Break ended up being longer than 10 minutes. The Frisbee had to be wrestled away from the dog, who had bitten it so viciously that there were holes in the side. When Paul noticed this, he said, "Holy crap there are HOLES in this Frisbee!", which caused everyone else to mob him.
On another occasion, a woman was out with her two dogs. One would apparently catch the Frisbee if it was thrown until it collapsed. While it never did, it came close. The other dog, while tiny, was amazing at soccer. The only way to get the ball past it would be to kick it over its head. Otherwise, it kept up an incredible defense, and the guys playing against it never found another way to get the ball past. Break was much longer than 20 minutes that day. The ball used in the game was shredded.
Lock-out
It should be known by every CTYer at this point to never take off their lanyard unless they're showering or sleeping, and even then that's debatable. And since RAs are always telling their kids to never take of said lanyards, you'd think that they would never forget it either. However, this is not always the case.
One day at 8:00 AM, RA Sofi's hall was clustered around her door, waiting for her to emerge from her room and take them all to breakfast. Since the night before, she had taken RA Genesis to the emergency room without telling her hall, some people thought she was dead and called the front desk to notify them. Others stared at the door and hoped she was still alive. Elise from INBS got down on her knees and shoved a napkin under the door with the message, "We're outside :)"
A minute later, Sofi emerged, barefoot, without her lanyard, and said, "Good morning, girls!" The door closed behind her. Sofi realized she was locked out.
She did a hurried headcount and started to bring her entire hall to breakfast, walking barefoot alongside them. Then someone asked, "Hey, where's Katherine?" Sofi had forgotten one of her kids all the way up on the 6th floor, and, having no key, could not go back up and get her. Meanwhile, Katherine had emerged from her room and was looking up and down the hallway, wondering where everyone was.
Sofi decided she was not going to go all the way back there yet. She made sure her hall got to breakfast and without even stepping into the dining hall (she said it was a health hazard), she talked to SRA Tiana and finally walked back to Campion with another one of her girls, who she had forgotten to bring up to the 7th floor for morning meds.
All this happened because she had slept through her alarm.
Compliments
Elise decided one day at Casino Night to write compliments on napkins she had handy and distribute them to anyone she met. She inevitably ran out of napkins, then somehow got her hands on a few wedding certificates from the marriage booth, tore them into strips, and wrote compliments on those. Then she ran out of them too. This triggered a series of napkin burglaries from the cafeteria. The most daring heist was the theft of 147 napkins. Plates were also stolen at the last dance and thrown at RA Sofi, who was co-deejay-ing and looking bored, and RA Kendall, who took the plates with her at the end of the dance. They were never seen again.
Directions to Idaho
At Casino Night, one RA decided to send a horde of CTYers after RA Kendall for directions to Idaho, her home state. A lot of yelping, jogging in high heels, and arm-waving from Kendall ensued. Though Kendall was staring at her phone the entire time she was being chased, she managed to not trip and fall. She probably had fun (there’s a picture of her smiling in the slideshow), but eventually became tired of being chased by a screaming mob of teenagers and told them to leave her alone.
Let It Go
While RA Kendall is evidently not okay with being chased for directions to Idaho, she's totally fine with being mobbed while she sings and dances to Frozen's Let It Go and will lead a massive clump of scream-singing teenagers around the room. These are not the only antics that occurred during a particularly memorable rendition of the song. SRA Daniel also ran around wildly, and when he saw a student filming him, he ran toward and stuck his face into her camera with a loud scream/whoop, causing her to screech in surprise and then giggle.
Testing Creations
Note that all this happened in EGRD. A.
The egg drop test was on the second floor of a parking garage, and it was apparently riveting because it had the highest RA turnout for the entire session. Paul's egg drop worked fine until it fell into the gutter and got stuck. An RA had to fish it out. Drew's ran into the wall and dropped the egg, which cracked. The yolk somehow remained intact, which the audience found amusing. Alvin's egg drop was a heavily padded box. Paarth made what he called a "ski mechanism" out of balsa wood, which was supposed to make the egg drop slide smoothly to a stop. This didn't work; the egg drop flipped over and the ski mechanism was destroyed.
The class also built boats, which were tested in a fountain. Many of the boys went into the fountain barefoot, which led to the instructor yelling things like, "Alvin! PUT YOUR SHOES BACK ON!" Paul was grudgingly allowed to stand on a rock near the center of the fountain and make sure the boats didn't run into obstacles or sink. The boats made it into the end-of-session slideshow.
Nike Basketball Girls
In 17.2, a Nike basketball camp invaded the top floors of Campion. While some of the participants were annoying, especially the younger ones, many made attempts to socialize and befriend CTYers. It was fun to go up in the elevator with them because they always looked flabbergasted and a little jealous to see RAs waiting for CTYers. However, unlike CTYers, the basketball girls were allowed to go in the elevator without being accompanied by a staff member.
