Talk:GLOW
Wasn't it "Any question can be asked, but not every statement can be made"? Charlie 00:10, 21 June 2009 (PDT)
Do anyone from 2009 want to post said LGBT resource list on here?
There were *much* more than 80 people at that last GLOW meeting. Charlie 21:23, 8 August 2009 (PDT)
err... I'm pretty sure Shae said that exactly 80 people signed up. Plus like 6-10 TAs/RAs/instructors. -Allegra
Hi guys! Exactly 80 people legit signed up. So on our attendance list there was a count of 80. We also had, like, over a dozen extras. So I think we had over 100 (including RAs/TAs/Staff there). First session had roughly the same count. Magic number? --Shae 22:19, 15 August 2009 (PDT)
"Harassment campaign" um... allies and GSMs fighting for a safe space (which is no longer present at GLOW) is perfectly acceptable. The way things happened was not a "campaign" of "harassment" of any staff member(s). I hope that was just some very poor word choice. I wasn't in the group that apparently started complaining about the changes and getting upset at the adults, but not only is it 100% fine for a marginalized group to plead equality and show anger about being oppressed/endangered, any "harassment" ended right after it started. A safe space is, according to Advocates for Youth, "a place where anyone can relax and be fully self-expressed, without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe on account of biological [or designated] sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, age, or physical or mental ability; a place where the rules guard each person's self-respect and dignity and strongly encourage everyone to respect others." GLOW was UNSAFE and CTYers who understand that expect to create a safe space again, no matter what. I hope we can get the admin to see that their changes only harmed our safety, but I don't know how successful our attempts will be. I love you guys and I love what GLOW used to be and I promise that I'll try my hardest to make GLOW a welcoming and comfortable place for everyone (including queer CTYers...) again. -lcparr
