Behind the Mask: Superheroes Revealed
Behind the Mask: Superheroes Revealed (MASK) is a writing course for Baby CTY. It is offered at Brooklandville, La Jolla, San Mateo, Santa Monica and Sandy Spring. Students must have completed 2nd or 3rd grade to enter this course.
Course Description
BAM! POW! ZAP! Everyone knows Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, and Captain America, but superheroes can come in many different shapes and sizes. What does it take to be a superhero? Can Elsa from Frozen be considered a superhero? What about BB-8, Gru, or Hermione?
Like the writers at Disney, students craft compelling and creative stories using literary techniques like descriptive writing, symbolism, plot structure, and figurative language. By examining a variety of sources in literature and popular media, they develop their own vivid characters and unique settings.
Writing projects may include creative stories, opinion pieces, and storyboards. Their tales of adventure are polished during in-class workshops with input from their instructor and classmates.
