Announcements

Please obey all general editing procedures.

Header of the Day

If you haven't noticed, I take great pleasure in changing the header of this page. So, instead of changing at midnight each day, I'm trying to get a "Quote of the Day" feature added. If you have any headers you would like to have possibly appear, put it on the Talk page. Make sure it starts with "From RealCTY," unless the point is that it doesn't.

Acting Improv

Is Park Bench spelled "Park Bench" or "Parkbench?" I think that it's a bit more eye-pleasing the latter way, and Lore Keeper is apparently actually Lorekeeper. Also, does anyone know the name of the game-that-I-don't-know-the-name-of?

I'd keep it as two word, and I have added the name Sports Announcers --Jeff Sachs 13:17, 1 September 2006 (MST)

Favicon

A favicon has been added to the site. I've got IE 6.0, so I can't see it, but I assume it's there. How does it look?

WTF is a favicon? --Jeff Sachs 08:49, 1 September 2006 (MST)

A "Favorites Icon." It's the little symbol that shows up next to the URL in the address bar, and also on your favorites menu. Unless you have weird browsers like IE. On Firefox, there are favicon settings, or so I've heard. --Max W. 08:52, 1 September 2006 (MST)

Gotcha, yeah, it's working. Very nice. --Jeff Sachs 09:23, 1 September 2006 (MST)

Security

Editing, creating pages, etc. has been limited to logged-in users. This makes it easier to warn and track users who have vandalized pages, have made formatting errors, etc. Sorry for any inconveniences caused by this, but you ought to make accounts anyway. Yaaaay for accounts!

Wiki Style Update

Bolding

Pages look nicer if you place the title at the beginning of the first sentence, and bold it by using [[ ]] around it. This is similar to how Wikipedia formats things, and it looks nice, so it seems like the thing that we should do to. This formatting change is now part of the not-really-official site format.

Links

Unlike Wikipedia, this site is relatively small, so linking is not necessary. However, if you like adding links (which is great), try to keep only one link to each page in any one article (e.g., if Lancaster is mentioned twice, only link to the site page once).

New Admins!

Based on the contributional history of some individuals in the RealCTY community, and the fact that most of the community will have to face the upcoming start of school (which directly affects my ability to be here every waking moment), I have decided to appoint three new admins: Users Jeff Sachs, JW, and Sammka have been given sysop rights. This basically means that the three of you may now delete pages and ban users.

I don't ask any of you to devote any exorbitant amount of time to the site. However, I do ask that, whenever you do have the time, check in on things to delete spam, relocated poorly placed pages, etc. Basically, follow these general guidelines:

  • If redirect pages seem unnecessary (e.g., Egyptian rat Screw vs. Egyptian Rat Screw), delete the redirect page, and change the links on the site that lead to that page to the actual page.
  • If a page is poorly named, move it to a new title, and then delete the old page, except in the cases where redirect pages would be useful (again, different spellings of ERS, etc.). Again, manually alter links on other pages.
  • If pages are uncategorized, place them in all applicable categories; check a similar page for an example. Only articles about people (userpage or otherwise) should remain uncategorized.
  • If stubs are created, either:
    • move them into the Lexicon; or
    • merge them with the proper page, or merge several stubs into a page series (e.g., "Places:" or games relevant to the Cult of Godzilla).
  • Check the RealCTY:Policy page for general guidelines on banning users; please place the info on non-porn bannages on the RealCTY:Community Portal page.
  • Reformat things that need reformatting (e.g., alphabetizing the Lexicon, fixing "br" tags when unnecessary or improperly used, etc.).

Otherwise, use your own judgment; it's been good so far.

If any of you would really rather not be an admin, please tell me. If anybody has any reasons why they think these people shouldn't be admins, please tell me. If anyone else would like to be an admin, please tell me. Of course, feel free to talk to me about nothing; that would make me equally (if not more) happy.

All other announcements have been moved into the Help:Editing page. Please read them.

Welcome

This is your CTY website. It's yours. A quick intro:

  • Use the RealCTY:Community Portal to see what's new on the site.
  • Find and advertise reunions, and plan with friends for next session.
  • Play in the Sandbox.
  • 72633455064916235913983 (This was the original content of Prune me, move me, change me, share me. It does not appear to hold meaning.)

Before you start editing, read this page.

Please don't destroy pages in any way; many people have worked hard on the success of this site. Deformattings, mass deletions, vandalism, and spamming may result in bannage.

If you like this site, please advertise it. Tell your friends, leave notes in your LiveJournal communities, inform your email buddies, put it in your AIM info, and so on! The more, the merrier.
