Piano Medleys

The Piano Medleys are a four-year running tradition at Skidmore Session 1. Started by then-twomore Aric Zhu, in 12.1 they were picked up by Anshul Barnwal after Zhu left CTY in 14.1.

History

12.1 - 14.1

For talent show, onemore Aric Zhu played a medley of pop songs on his piano, such as "Stereo Hearts" by Gym Class Heroes. He created a word document and had the lyrics to each song projected on the screen, and everyone sang along to Aric's piano playing.

The following year, Aric brought the medley back to CTY, this time doing a medley of CTY canon songs, such as Forever Young, Pokemon, and American Pie. Following these three songs and a standing ovation, Aric, after a brief shout-out to Sonya Wang, played Mulan's I'll Make A Man Out of You, which had the entire audience on its feet and cheering wildly. Aric's medleys were extremely memorable parts of the talent show for everyone.

15.1

In 15.1, onemore Anshul Barnwal continued the tradition, where he played a medley of Disney songs. However, the act went very wrong when 1. the projector stopped working and 2. Anshul was unable to actually learn all the songs in time for talent show. He ended up simply singing the lyrics except for the last song. Continuing what Aric started, Anshul played I'll Make A Man Out of You on the piano, after which numerous CTYers rushed up on stage and unexpectedly started to sing and dance. (This was actually unplanned, leading to much confusion on Anshul's behalf when he looked up from his piano and saw people dancing).

Anshul hopes that after he repeats in 16.1, someone will take up the mantle and keep the piano medleys going.
