Hi, my name is Bruce, or at least, that's what I've been named, and what I’ve been called my whole life so far. This is my third year, and as a nevermore, this is also my final year at CTY. Over these past few years, so many things have changed, so many things have happened, and yet, despite everything, we’re still here. Since my first year in 2023, I have met so many amazing people, and I have learned so many new things. Here, at CTY, this has been the closest I’ve been to feeling like I could just be myself, I felt like I was part of a community of people I could share more with. One of the big strengths of CTY I feel is that sense of community, the sense of continuation, perpetuating everything that made the previous sessions from previous years fun, this perpetuation eventually becoming the traditions we know today. In this session, I wore the crown, and held the position known as King James. King James is someone who must be open and willing, teaching others, providing resources, and spreading the love for the art of poi. Like all arts, while we may perform in front of spectators, that is never the sole point of it. That is not where the meaning is derived from. Instead, the meaning of art comes from the process, the learning. For poi, the flow, spinning, learning, and doing what you can, however you want to. Poi is something I will also continue learning, and hopefully continue to teach as well, even after CTY. There have always been problems at CTY, and not everything has always gone well, and yet, CTY has still done so much for me. It has taught me so much — both academically and socially, and I couldn't imagine where I’d be without it and all the friends I’ve made here. So, to end my speech, I’d like to give my thanks to everything great here. Thanks for the fun activities and traditions — Taping people on love tape day, wearing towels on towel thursdays, and raving with poi. Thanks to all the instructors who have helped people learn new things, and have made their classes fun and passionate. Thanks to all RA’s who kept check of us, and those who have helped to make our experiences better wherever they could help. Whether or not they are here today, I give my thanks to each and every one of my friends that have been with me, at any point throughout my 3 years here. You all are great, and I love all of you. So long, and thanks for all the fish. I like you, i love you, i CTY you, I hub you, i love CTY and i love the passionfruit.
