Music Theory was a CTY Humanities course. Its course code was MUST, and it was offered only at Carlisle. Your prerequisites were to have a written recommendation from your music instructor and have at least 3 years of private study on a musical instrument.
Course Description
From the CTY Course Catalog (1997):
Music Theory helps students further their understanding of music symbols and also provides them with opportunities to explore the relationships of these symbols within the context of a musical score. A thorough understanding of the major/minor scale system is stressed, including intervallic relationships and triadic and seventh-chord harmonies. A study of rhythm and meter is also covered. All students should gain a better understanding of the basics of music theory, a broadening of musical vocabulary, and a chance to apply concepts learned in class in their own compositions. The course includes written, oral, and aural exercises and provides students with a solid foundation for further study towards the Advanced Placement Examination in Music Theory.
Class History
Music Theory at CAR has been instructed by Dan Shaw and TA'd by Taylor Johnson for the past three years (as of CAR.1.08).
