Eastern European History

Eastern European History (EEHI) was a CTY Humanities course based on Eastern europe, mainly Russia and Germany. The prerequisite for this class was Geopolitics or Survey of Modern European History. This course was offered at Carlisle and Los Angeles.

Course Description

From the CTY Course Catalog (1997):

This course is a survey of Eastern Europe beginning with the Treaty of Versailles, when Europe was created much as we know it today, and ending in the present. After a brief historical introduction to the region, attention will be given to a number of topics, including the development of authoritarianism and totalitarianism in the region, the Russian Revolution, the Cold War, the devolution of the Communist system from the death of Stalin to the death of Chernenko, Stalinist resistance in the East, the role of the U.S., and the problems of economic change. Special attention will be given to Germany's role in the economic evolution of the East, as well as to particular issues surrounding Southeast Europe.
