Ecology

Ecology (ECOL) was a CTY Science course that focused on the study of interacting organisms through the environment and ecosystems in which they live. This course was only offered at Clinton.

Course Description

From the CTY Course Catalog] (1997):

This course is an introduction to the study of how organisms interact with their environment. The focus of the course is terrestrial and aquatic community ecology. Topics include ecosystem energetics, nutrient cycling, population interaction, community structure and succession, adaptation, competition for resources, human ecology, and environmental issues analysis. The daily schedule typically includes three hours of class and two hours or more of lab and/or field work. Laboratory work includes exercises such as developing an experimental design that incorporates statistics, data collection, and graphing; analyzing the physics, chemistry, and biology of ecosystems; and population sampling. The course entails field work in terrestrial and aquatic systems and makes use of nearby resources such as Hamilton College's Root Glen and the Utica Marsh.
