Course Description
From the CTY Course Catalog (1998):
This course covers topics and concepts of intermediate algebra, precalculus, trigonometry, discrete math, and analytic geometry. The goals of the course are to develop proficiency in higher order mathematical skills, to expand understanding of mathematical concepts, to improve logical thinking, and to give students a solid foundation upon which to build mathematically. Through a variety of exercises, students apply these concepts to mathematical problems and build their problem-solving skills. Some of the units covered in this course include linear relations and functions, theory of equations, matrices and vectors, circular and trigonometric functions, graphs and inverses of the trigonometric functions, applications of trigonometry, sequences and series, polar coordinates and complex numbers, conics, probability and statistics, and limits and the derivative. The course is designed to benefit those students who desire exposure to advanced mathematical concepts prior to taking a related course, such as precalculus, at their home school.
