Course Description
From the CTY Course Catalog (1999):
Designed as a course for students excited about pursuing science or engineering fields and interested in taking the AP Physics C Examination in May of 2000, this course is an in-depth study of mechanics. Students learn linear motion, rotational motion, simple harmonic motion, circular motion, linear momentum, energy, forces, work, angular momentum, and rotational dynamics.
The course is taught at a first-year college level, and although a background in calculus would be helpful, it is not required. The concepts of calculus necessary for physics problem-solving are taught at the beginning of the course and no prior knowledge of calculus is assumed. However, students must have strong backgrounds in precalculus mathematics, including trigonometry and analytic geometry.
This course includes material found on the mechanics component AP Physics C Examination given in May, 2000, and gives students sufficient experience for the exam. However, it does not cover electromagnetism, the second component of the AP Physics C Exam.
